Thanks to a very supportive community, Valdez High School hosted the Aurora Music Festival 2025 this past weekend.

VHS is dedicating a day to career exploration and practicing professionalism on Thursday, April 17 with the Valdez High School College & Career Fair.
Buc Track & Field Team at the Russ Edwards “Big C” Track & Field Meet
This past weekend, 28 Buccaneer track and field athletes traveled to The Dome
in Anchorage to join over 1000 other athletes from 36 teams, both 3A and 4A, across
the state to compete in the Russ Edwards Big C Relays.

Three Valdez Athletes recognized by AABC
The Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches recognized three VHS students were recognized for 3A All-State.
4th Place Finish at State for VHS Boys Basketball
The Valdez (#5 Seed) defeated Kenai Central (#6 Seed) 71-49 on Friday for fourth place in the Class 3A state basketball tournament at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage.

VHS Academic Decathlon takes 2nd in Division at State
The VHS Academic Decathlon team traveled to State this past week and competed against
schools from around the state in 10 individual competitive areas, culminating in a live Super Quiz event where they squared up against other teams on stage in front of an audience.

The Lady Bucs enjoyed another weekend of home games this last week. The Hutchison Hawks joined us for a couple of conference games on Thursday and Friday night.
Bering Land Bridge wasn’t such a dry place
Poking holes in the sea floor that used to be part of the Bering Land Bridge, researchers have found that large swaths of it were floodplains pocked with bogs and ponds that may have restricted passage of animals like the woolly rhino and short-faced bear.
Teams from across Alaska participated in the Valdez Elks Tournament over the weekend
VHS hosted the 47th Annual Elks Basketball Tournament over the weekend. Teams from seven schools participated: Valdez, Sitka, MCCA, Lathrop, Barrow, Kodiak, and Cordova.

Valdez won the last time they faced Galena and things went their way on Saturday too. The Valdez Buccaneers blew past the Galena Hawks 73-37.

Valdez High School ski team traveled to Gakona to race against the Glennallen ski team Saturday for a challenging 5k race, with 5 girls and 8 boys competing for the Bucs.

After a quick turnaround this weekend our Bucs loaded up and headed to Sitka for a two game contest against the Sitka Wolves and two games with the Mt. Edgecumbe Lady Braves.
