
The winner of this year’s annual Ice Classic event is Valdez local, Brian Teale who had the closest guess to the date and time the tower would fall through the ice on Ruth Pond. The tower fell through the ice on May 2nd at 5:35PM and raised over $3,800.00. Brian took home $1,921.50, with the remainder of the proceeds benefitting Advocates for Victims of Violence and Parks Maintenance.

This year’s election had a 43% voter turnout. Out of 3,097 confirmed registered voters in Valdez, 1,331 cast valid ballots in this election.

The 14th annual Valdez Fly-In and Air Show will be held this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Pioneer Field Airport.
Event organizer Doug DeSorcie said this year is shaping up to be one of the biggest ever. “There will be incredible acrobatics, competition of the best bush pilots with the Short take off and landings as well as a Flour Bombing competition and Balloon Bust”, DeSorcie said. Shall the City of Valdez Adopt a Local Option to Prohibit the Operation of Commercial Marijuana Establishments,
Including the Following License Types:
A. A retail marijuana store:
A “retail marijuana store” means an entity registered to purchase marijuana from marijuana cultivation facilities, to purchase marijuana and marijuana products from marijuana product manufacturing facilities, and to sell marijuana and marijuana products to consumers.
B. A marijuana cultivation facility:
A “marijuana cultivation facility” means an entity registered to cultivate, prepare, and package marijuana and to sell marijuana to retail marijuana stores, to marijuana product manufacturing facilities, and to other marijuana cultivation facilities, but not to consumers.
C. A marijuana product manufacturing facility; and
A “marijuana product manufacturing facility” means an entity registered to purchase marijuana; manufacture, prepare, and package marijuana products; and sell marijuana and marijuana products to other marijuana product manufacturing facilities and to retail marijuana stores, but not to consumers.
D. A marijuana testing facility.
A “marijuana testing facility” means an entity to registered to analyze and certify the safety and potency of marijuana.
