Communities and interested people can review and comment on the proposed schedule through mid-November.

The draft schedule is based on the expected funding level for fiscal year 2019 and established community service needs and events. Scheduled service is similar to last year’s service, and maintains vessel regulatory and safety standards.

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities oversees 242 airports, 10 ferries serving 35 communities, more than 5,600 miles of highway, and 731 public facilities throughout the state of Alaska. The mission of the department is to “Keep Alaska Moving through service and infrastructure”.

Laura and Jeff Saxe Sell Capt’n Joe’s

After more than 20 years in business, Laura and Jeff Saxe are selling Capt’n Joe’s Tesoro. The couple started the business in 1993 and announced on Facebook they are selling the business to Tom and Christine Auble and Gary and Carrie Schliesing.

Laura’s open letter to the community

To the community of Valdez. Jeff and I would like to say Thank you, from the bottoms of our hearts, for all the support that you have shown us since 1993, when we built Capt’n Joe’s Gas. It has been our sincere pleasure supporting programs and fundraisers in our great little town. We are excited to announce that four energetic, community oriented people have purchased the gas station from Jeff and I. Tom & Christine Auble and Gary & Carrie Schliesing are going to continue to support Valdez and its citizens providing great Tesoro fuels. We are grateful to have them working adjacent to us at our Eagle’s Rest RV Park. Please help us welcome these familiar faces to Capt’n Joe’s Gas.

Sincerely

Jeff & Laura Saxe

JV Volleyball:  (Coach Adam Sharrai)

Wrestling:  (Coach CT)

Buccaneer wrestlers made the best of their long road trip to Seward this past weekend. Those that made the trip wrestled some of their best matches of the season thus far.

Sullivan Holt: 0-3 record on the weekend. However, he showed a lot of fight on the mat after taking some time off the mat due to injury.

Connor Britt: Connor had a great weekend with a record of 2-2. He showed some great improvement throughout the weekend and is ready to wrestle next week at ACS.

JT Ginn: JT had a great weekend picking up three pins coming out with a 3-0 record. JT is beginning to see that hard work in the room pays dividends in competition.

Dustin Woods: Dustin had another great weekend with a record of 3-1. Dustin shows continued hard work in the wrestling room and improvement every match.

Swimming Regionals:  (Coach Carl Young)

A young Valdez Buccaneer swim team went to regionals and preformed beyond expectations.  Seventy percent of our team are first year high school swimmers, with no seniors so we get to go up from here.  I will let each swimmers numbers express the results.
