Mountain goat hunt in Unit 6D to close by emergency order

Registration permit hunt RG248 for mountain goats in Game Management Unit 6D will close by emergency order at 11:59 p.m. on October 9. The hunt area includes the mainland drainages of Sheep Creek; north of Port Valdez, Robe Lake, and the Richardson Highway; and east of Shoup Glacier.

Aerial surveys conducted this year found a minimum count of 162 goats in the RG248 permit area. The department set the maximum allowable state harvest at five goat points.
