Emily Benes gets to Third Round in statewide spelling bee

Emily Benes represented Hermon Hutchens Elementary School in the Statewide Spelling Bee in Anchorage March 30th. One hundred and fifty six kids competed from around Alaska. Benes spelled physique correctly in the first round, poinsettia in the 2nd and was eliminated in the 3rd round on the word basmati. Emily’s Mom Jolyn Benes said the experience was “fun and pretty intimidating at the same time”.
