City Council passes ordinance to limit bar opening and closure times

The Valdez City Council passed the second reading of an ordinance to shorten the time establishments can sell alcoholic beverages in the City of Valdez. The new municipal ordinance limits the sale of alcoholic beverages between the hours of 2am and 8am.

Several Council members and the public did not think the ordinance would solve problem but supported the effort in an attempt to “do something”. Several at the Council meeting made pleas to encourage more discussion, outreach and problem solving on the topic drinking and driving.

The ordinance passed by a vote of 5 to 1.
