Nick Alfaro Takes It To the Hoop

The GMS Boys basketball teams continued their successful season against Glennallen this weekend.  Both the Varsity and JV boys played well.  The Varsity boys won both games handily, holding Glennallen to a total of 12 points for the weekend.  In the Varsity games, Allen Watson, Owen Watson, and Nick Alfaro played really well.

The JV boys won both games against Glennallen, pulling away in the 2nd half in both games.  Despite the loss of Gavin Morris, the Huskies fought hard and were able to turn back a Glennallen team that played well.  Jacob Ambacher, Grayson Ade, and Spencer Holbrook led the way for the Huskies.

Both teams are looking forward to the Gilson Middle School invitational tournament this weekend.

GMS GIRLS A BASKETBALL TEAM PLAYING WELL TOGETHER

Carsyn Hinkle came ready to play Friday night against the Glennallen Panthers, scoring 8 points in the first half. Hinkle ended up with 12 points in the 29 to 10 win. Chloe Auble and Masen Holmes added 6 points and Peyton Wade chipped in 4 points and 6 rebounds. Jasmine Bravo had 3 steals. On Saturday the Huskies came out strong, scoring 11 points in the first quarter. Mya Christofferson had all of her 5 points in the first quarter. Chloe Auble scored 8 and ripped down 7 rebounds.  Jasmine Bravo added 4 points and five steals. Peyton Wade grabbed 5 rebounds. Carsyn Hinkle scored 3 points and had 6 rebounds. “The team really played well together as a team”, said Coach Laurie Prax. “There were a lot of assists and I’m really looking forward to playing against some big schools in our tournament this weekend”. Gilson Middle School will be hosting a boys and girls middle school tournament this weekend. There will be 24 teams competing in 44 games this Friday and Saturday. There will be a cheerleading competition held also. Tournament games will be held at both Gilson Middle School and Valdez High School. Schools attending the tournament are: Monroe Catholic; Cordova; Delta; Redington; Grace Christian; Houston; Teeland and Valdez.

GIRLS B TEAM HUSKIES GET VALUABLE COURT TIME

The Gilson Middle School Girls B team had some close basketball games against the Glennallen Panthers this weekend. Glennallen and Kenny Lake combined forces so the B team was able to play four games this weekend. On Friday the Huskies won 20 to 8. Sofia Ramos had great anticipation on both the defensive and offense end and came up with 5 steals and 6 offensive rebounds and 4 points. Ariel Voth led the team in scoring with 6 points and chipped in 5 steals. In the 2nd B team game Friday, the Huskies won 14 to 12. MoeMoe Togague had 4 points and 8 rebounds. On Saturday, the Huskies won their first game easily. Jasmine Hobson had 7 points. Lily Brown added 5. The guards did a great job trapping during their full court press and Sofia Ramos picked off passes and came up with 10 steals. Jasmine Hobson added 6 steals. Karen Santiago had 5 rebounds. Ramos added 5 rebounds. The final game of the weekend was the most exciting with Valdez winning 12 to 11 in overtime. MoeMoe Togague had 9 rebounds and Desi Woodgate added 6 rebounds. Lily Brown and Jasmine Hobson had 6 steals apiece.
