Employment Wages Increase Less than Inflation Rates

According to a report commissioned by the City of Valdez, over the last 10 years, the total number of employees (both resident and non-resident) in Valdez has been relatively steady, similar to population trends.  

 

 Between 2004 and 2014 total employment wages increased by 26% from $94.9 million to $119.9 million.  However, when measured in inflation-adjusted dollars, this increase is below the level needed to have kept pace with inflation over the last decade.  Total wages of $119.9 million in 2014 are about equal to 2004 wages of 122.8 million (in 2014 dollars).
