November 11, 1985 – January 31, 2025
On January 31, 2025, Steven (Joey) Joseph Cotter lost his battle with depression. He was born on November 11, 1985, to Steven Ackerl Cotter and Jane Katherine Cotter. He was preceded in death by his father, Steven Cotter; all of his grandparents; many aunts and uncles; and his loyal canine companion, Koko.
Joey leaves behind a family who loved him fiercely— his beautiful daughters, Maisareen Azaam and Yuri Oitir (Chelsea Farner), who were the lights of his life; mother, Jane Cotter; his sisters, Corina Nicolette and Audrey Cotter; his nieces and nephews Elayzia and Griffin Nicolette (Corina), and Canyon and Ada Miller (Audrey). He is also survived by his cherished pets, Zelda and Nimeria, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
Joey was a man of wisdom, depth, and boundless adventure. His passion for life was astonishing—he pursued his dreams fearlessly, traveling widely and following his heart wherever it led. He earned a BA in Elementary Education and later a Master’s degree in Global Supply Chain Management from the University of Alaska, Anchorage. His career was as dynamic as he was, spanning multiple industries—from construction to sales—where his leadership and kindness left lasting impressions on those around him. He wasn’t just a colleague or a boss; he was a mentor, a friend, and a guiding light to many.
To know Joey was to know energy, warmth, and an unwavering determination to carve his own path. His kindness was immeasurable, his heart pure gold. He would do anything for those he loved, always offering a helping hand while never asking for one himself.
His absence leaves a devastating void, especially for his daughters, who will forever carry his love with them. In Joey’s honor, we urge anyone struggling with mental health to reach out. You are not alone. There is help. There is hope. (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: 988)
A Celebration of Life will be held on May “the” 4th at 2 PM at Kincaid Chalet to honor the incredible man he was. In true Joey fashion, the dress code is classy, and there will be much celebrating—just as he would have wanted.
Joey left this world far too soon, but his impact was immense. May his drive, determination, and spirit inspire us all to live fully, love deeply, and hold on tightly to those who matter. Though we are left with an unfillable void, we carry forward his memory—the force of his love, the energy of his presence, and the lessons he left behind.
Rest easy, Joey. You are loved beyond measure.
