This weekend the Valdez Buccaneers hosted the Aurora Conference Championships. Having gone undefeated in conference play throughout the season, the Lady Bucs started out as the #1 seed. On Friday afternoon the Bucs put on a show in front of a lively hometown crowd as they faced the Hutchison Hawks. The team’s energy and all-around solid playing propelled them to an easy win in three sets 25-13, 25-12, 25-19. As they continued through the bracket the Bucs faced Monroe Catholic. Strong serving and smart offense were the keys to the win in three sets 25-15, 25- 11, 25-19, forcing the Rams down to the consolation bracket. This win secured the Bucs a spot in the championship match, where we faced Monroe once again. The Lady Bucs rallied through four sets to take the win 25-16, 22-25, 25-10, 25-21 and clinch the Aurora Conference Championship. Great job Bucs! This week the team will be representing Valdez once again as they head to the state championships at the Alaska Airlines center in Anchorage.
