The Lady Bucs spent their spring break in Anchorage this past week at the ASAA 3A/4A State Championship Basketball Tournament. In their first contest the Bucs found themselves facing the Grace Christian Grizzlies who are now back to back state Champions. Despite being heavily outmatched the Lady Bucs took to the court with several goals in mind and met every single one of them. The Grace Grizzlies are an impressive team…..one you can learn lots from and a team that we truly enjoyed playing against even having lost by a score of 56-19. Destiny Day led the scoring that night with 13 points and Rylee Wade had 6. Destiny Day was the player of the game.
In their second matchup the Bucs took on the Bethel Warriors…..a team we had seen and beaten twice already this season and a team we are very evenly matched with. We knew Bethel would show up and fight hard in this contest and that’s just what they did. The game was close throughout and then with just 2.4 seconds left on the clock and the score tied at 36 the end of the 4th quarter the Warriors hit the game winning basket that put an end to the Lady Bucs season. Rylee Wade led all scorers with 13 points, Destiny Day, Lola Compehos and Kelli Malcuit all had 5 points each and Hali Fitka and Izzy Kizer both contributed 4 points. Rylee Wade was named player of the game.
The Bucs had a good year ending their season at 19 – 10. This is a very young team that is eager to learn and grow. They are already talking about the work they want to do and the time they want to commit to making themselves better ball players. Looking forward to next season!!
