Valdez Football Vs. Seward

Football

Submitted by Lee Chadwick

The Bucs football team took to the swamp that is known as the Seward football field this past Saturday. From torrential and continual rain, the field was covered in mud, holes, and standing water. A fall chill in the air made each tackle resemble a polar plunge challenge. With virtually no subs or opportunities to warm hands during the game, the 12 Buc players showed terrific heart. Seeing these young men shiver somewhat uncontrollably from the cold, wet conditions at half time as they awaited the second half to once again represent our community would warm the heart of any spectator.  We sincerely appreciate those who travel so far to give an encouraging shout.

Losing to Seward the first week of the season, the Bucs were then still able to use quickness and misdirection to score. However, Saturday’s field conditions tilted the advantage considerably to a bigger, stronger, more numerous foe as directional cuts and pulls were nearly impossible in the slick conditions. The final score was in favor of Seward, 58-0.

This coming week, the Bucs travel to Eielson to take on the Ravens in the second of a home-and-away series this year.
