Courtesy of VHS Coaches – This weekend the Valdez Lady Bucs competed in the volleyball state championships. They kicked off the tournament on Thursday playing the Houston Hawks. The girls started off strong beating the Hawks, 3-0. This pushed them into the quarter finals, later that night, to go up against the Kenai Kardinals. They fought hard each set but fell, losing 1-3. The girls had close games each set.

On Friday, the girls started their journey through the losers bracket playing the Nikiski Bulldogs. They had a great game and executed a number of plays. They won 3-1. They continued that night in a rematch against the Monroe Catholic Rams. The girls had one of their best matches of the season and knocked out the Rams, winning 3-1.

Saturday morning’s match was the decider in who would face the Kenai Kardinals in the 3A State Championship match. They played amazingly against the Sitka Wolves. The girls continued to repeat their amazing play, winning 3-0. The State Championship was a rematch from last year’s final game. The girls played so well but fell to the Kenai Kardinals losing 3-0. This is the only 3A team this year’s Lady Bucs had lost a match to. I am so incredibly proud of all these girls, especially the seniors who were great leaders and pushed this team to work hard and always play their best. The team had an amazing season and I am excited for next year.
