Varsity Volleyball Vs. Hutchison

Courtesy of VHS Coaches – This weekend, the volleyball teams traveled to Fairbanks for conference games against the Hutchison Hawks. The girls continued their winning streak in conference games, winning 3-0. We had a small team this weekend traveling with only 8 girls. This gave them all time on the court along with three jv players who dressed out for Friday’s game. Everyone played hard and had a good weekend.

Saturday’s games were a quick win for the girls, beating Hutch 3-0. The girls had a much better match where they successfully executed multiple quick plays that they have been working on. The team’s final regular season games will take place at home against the Galena Hawks, October 28-29th.

Hutchison vs. Bucs JV

Courtesy of VHS Coaches – This past weekend the Valdez Buccaneer Volleyball Team traveled to Fairbanks to play the Hutchison Hawks for our last Aurora Conference away games of the season. This week our starting rotation for the Junior Varsity team was Marcedes Taylor, Holly Carter, Mariah Dunning, Madison Sauls, Sydney Cronk, and Jazlyn Gallatin. Marcedes Taylor was the high server for both matches on Friday and Saturday. Holly Carter, however, showed an impressive streak of serving in our last set against the Hawks on Saturday. Carter was our second server of the set and served 21 straight to win the set at 25 – 1. The team worked well communicating with each other their positioning for a slightly different rotation for the weekend. Great wins overall. This coming weekend will be an open weekend for the volleyball team followed by our last home game of the season against Galena (varsity) and Glennallen (JV).

Houston Altercation Wrestling Tournament

Courtesy of VHS Coaches – Buccaneer wrestling kicked off this past weekend at the annual Houston Altercation invite and the Wasilla JV Scramble. Leading the way for the buccaneer varsity squad were sophomores Carlie Vanbuskirk (2nd place 138 pounds) and Rylen Case (3rd place 103 pounds). Leading the way for the buccaneer junior varsity squad were sophomores AJ Tudela (2nd place 189 pounds) and Kedrick Wallis (3rd place 171 pounds).

Overall, this was a great test for our very young team and I am looking forward to our future completions this year. Next weekend the Bucs will compete at home for the first time in three years during the annual Throwdown in Snow Town. Go Bucs!
