All non-essential City of Valdez employees will begin working from home starting the
morning of Oct. 19. Non-essential employees will work from home for a two-week period and returning to work or continuing to work from home will be evaluated and clarified to city staff before Nov. 1.

Individual departments will work with City Administration to determine which employees are essential or non-essential. The intention is that all work and City of Valdez services will continue, and for many, this can happen with technology from home. Employees will be available via usual communication channels, including work cell phones and e-mail, during regular work hours.

Valdez residents are being encouraged to not conduct business in City Hall, to please make any
necessary payments online and call the front desk, (907) 835-4313, if additional accommodations are required.

The Planning Department window will be closed, but limited staff will be available to offer services in contactless way. Residents are encouraged to submit applications via e-mail through
planningdept@valdezak.gov, but call the Planning Department at (907) 834-3401 if additional
accommodations are required.

All City of Valdez-sponsored events, including major activities through Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services, will end at 5 p.m. today for the next two weeks. The Valdez Public Library will work to reinstitute curbside pickups and the Valdez Pool, Civic Center Movies, Rock Wall and Teen Center will be closed along with canceling any other upcoming activities for the next two weeks. Flu Vaccination Clinics happening on Oct. 16 and Oct. 23 will still occur: valdezak.gov/flushot. The Drive Thru COVID-19 testing clinic that was announced via the City of Valdez Facebook page will still occur from Oct. 17 to Oct. 19 and Oct. 24 to 26 on the Clifton Court Road. This measure is being taken to help the City of Valdez lead by example regarding the importance of social distancing and this will also provide an opportunity for the City of Valdez to establish better reporting processes to help with getting through the COVID-19 pandemic. City Administration also hopes this will provide time for a reset for City employees to assist with protecting one another by following COVID-19 mitigations. The City of Valdez also hopes that our entire community will follow COVID-19 mitigations to keep our community safe.
