Valdez Varsity Volleyball Vs. Tok Mixed 6

Contributed by Coach Madison Fleming – This weekend, the varsity played against Tok’s Mixed 6 team. Friday night we swept them 3-0. We celebrated Senior Night on Friday between the JV and Varsity matches. All four of this year’s seniors played amazing. Anna Agcaoili played right side, ending the night with multiple kills. Savannah Cockerham had a great night playing well all the way around. Reese King led the weekend in assists. Rylie King finished the night leading in digs. Overall, the girls had great communication and discipline throughout the match.

Saturday’s match ended with us sweeping Tok again 3-0. The girls again displayed amazing communication and discipline throughout the match. All three sets showed how far the girls have come since the beginning of season. The third set really showed the teams ability to adjust to any changes and still play at their level. In that set, Rylie King (libero) and Reese King (setter) switched positions and both did extremely well.

Lady Bucs vs. Tok Wolverines
October 30-31

Contributed by Coach Katie Burns – The Lady Bucs ended their junior varsity season with a bang against the Tok Wolverines this past Halloween weekend with a clean sweep of 6 straight wins.
October 31 marked the end of the 2020 Junior Varsity volleyball season. The team, made up of 12 freshmen, 2 sophomores, and 1 junior, has made great gains together from the start of the season in August. Our serving, collectively, became more consistent and aggressive. Overall players showed more control of the ball and understanding of transitions that take place during this fast-paced sport. Many players achieved personal goals for their own performance during the season, whether it was building on their serving skill, timing their block, making a strong approach to attack, or passing consistency to the target. I am very proud of the hard work and effort they have put forth.

Against the Tok Wolverines, the JV team jumped into an early lead both Friday and Saturday and maintained control of each set throughout both matches, winning each day in three clean sets. Every member of our team was able to show off their skills on the court for their fans to see. Excellent serving for the weekend was shared by a large group: Ember Leadbetter, Lily Brown, Jaimie Crisp, Bella Smelcer, Marcedes Taylor, and Ariel Mitchell. In the absence of our libero, Olivia Selanoff, both Mitchell and Desi Woodgate rose to the occasion as defensive specialists, making quick defensive decisions in the back court line and allowing the setter to take off quickly to initiate an offensive play for our team.

Great season to the Lady Bucs Junior Varsity volleyball team!

Overall Record: 47 Set Wins, 29 Set Loses
