HHES students raising Coho Salmon in their classrooms this year, giving them an exciting educational experience.

On May 18th, Mr. Kerney & Mrs. Gibbs released each classroom’s salmon fry from their tanks into Ruth Pond. It was a very successful year for the salmon, with almost all the eggs from one of the tanks surviving to the fry stage.

VFDA is very proud to be part of this educational project with Valdez City School. With the survival percentages being so good, VFDA is confident they are training some top-notch fish culturists along the way. A lot was learned about the life cycle of salmon and caring for these unique fish. VFDA is very excited about helping again with next year’s project!
