The Valdez Track and Field team traveled to Colony to compete against 21 other teams this past weekend. Friday presented perhaps the most difficult conditions that the Bucs have ever competed in. The wind was blowing so hard that the high jump bar often blew down before the jumper even reached it, forcing them to go back and start their approach again. Despite these difficulties, Laken Unger, Regan Pedersen, and Peyton Branshaw, all set personal records in High Jump. Kyle Petersen took 3rd overall in Shot Put with a throw of 44’ 2”, Cirque Carter made it into finals in both the 110 Hurdles and the 300m Hurdles, and Brody Liljedahl set a new personal record in the 100m, with a time of 11.69, just shy of making it to finals, It was awe-inspiring to see our team rally, support each other, and perform so well under such challenging conditions. Despite the cold weather and wind, many set new personal records. Saturday brought the sunshine, and the wind died down; what a relief that was!
