This weekend, our Varsity Boys traveled to Anchorage to compete in the South High School Wolverine Classic, another valuable opportunity to test ourselves against strong 4A programs and familiar 3A competition.
Our opening game was a rematch against the Nome Nanooks. While our previous meeting—though a loss—was one of our strongest performances of the season, this time the game slipped away early. Turnovers plagued us from the start, allowing Nome to build a commanding early lead and control the tempo, resulting in a 76–43 loss.
In our second matchup, we faced Service High School. The Buccaneers came out hot offensively, scoring 22 points in the first quarter and keeping pace with Service’s 24. However, turnovers and scoring struggles after the opening quarter allowed Service to apply consistent pressure and pull away, handing us an 84–38 defeat.
We closed the weekend against the Su Valley Rams in a competitive, hard-fought game. Su Valley knocked down several tough three-point shots to stay within striking distance, but our defensive pressure and energy allowed us to maintain control throughout. The Buccaneers finished strong, securing a 56–42 win.
Our Varsity Boys now sit at 2–6 on the season and will look to continue building momentum as they head north for a conference matchup in Fairbanks against Hutchison.
