VALDEZ, ALASKA – At approximately 3:00 p.m. October 30th, the Valdez Police Department Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, assisted by state and federal EOD personnel, responded to a residence at 148 Dadina Street after old dynamite was discovered by a person authorized to clean out the property.
The dynamite was determined to be in a degraded condition and unsafe to move. As a safety precaution, all individuals in nearby residences were notified of the potential hazard and asked to temporarily vacate the area while the operation was conducted. Valdez Fire and EMS were placed on standby for the duration of the response.
By 6:00 p.m., the dynamite was safely disposed of, and residents were cleared to return to their homes.
