In Loving Memory of Christopher James Miner
October 19, 1959 – December 31, 2025
Christopher James Miner, 66, passed away on December 31, 2025 in Valdez, Alaska with his best friend and love of his life, Robin James, by his side. He was buried in the Valdez Cemetery in January.
Chris was born in Cutbank, Montana to Leo and Lorraine Miner. He moved to Alaska in Spring of 1972 and lived in Alaska for the rest of his life, falling in love with the wildness and freedom of this beautiful place.
Chris was a philosopher, an avid reader at heart, and he found peace and purpose in the wondrous beauty of the outdoors. He was a rock hound, hiker, and loved fishing and camping. To those who knew him, he was a warm soul who welcomed everyone and was always willing to lend the shirt off his back or cook up a good steak for those who were hungry. His generosity shined brightly to all that met him.
He was a beloved brother to John Michael, Lynne, Lisabeth, Maureen, Constance, Joseph, Andrew, Julie, and Cheryl, and brother-in-law to Tim James. Chris’s legacy is survived by his children: his son, Cody James Miner (Brenda Grandorff), daughter in law Courtney Miner, and his daughters, Ceylon Miner and Timi Miner (Robin James) and his son in law, Jamie “Kal” Berg; and through his grandchildren: Cory, Colby, Colton, Connely, Winter, and Isla.
Chris’s life was a testament to living authentically. He will be deeply missed by his family- his many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family stretched across many places; his many friends; and all others whose lives were touched by his wisdom and love. Chris leaves behind a legacy defined by his wild spirit and a deep love for his family, God, the outdoors, and rock and roll. He lived his life guided by his own rules, curiosity, and adventure.
We will celebrate his life at the Eagles Hall at 6pm on Saturday May 2nd in Valdez, Alaska. We will have a potluck and band play, followed by some of his favorite music and then a fire down at Dock Point- as he always loved a good bonfire. Please join us in celebrating his spirit in a way only Chris Miner could be. Party on!
