This past weekend was packed with action as the Valdez buccaneers hosted the annual Throwdown in Snow town wrestling tournament. This year’s event started a little unique, as the Bucs wrestled Delta High school Thursday afternoon in front of the student body. The Bucs won the duel 36 – 19, with standout performances from returning state placers Kaden Vanbuskirk and Logan Beck, each earning first period pins.

Other notable performances included Freshman Jameson White, who earned the come from behind victory at 125 pounds to get the hometown crowd going. On the girl’s side, Freshman Bryndi Beck kicked things off with a pin at 107 pounds, with Juniors Kaitlyn Morgan and Jewely Weber also winning via pin.

Friday consisted of four different duels for the Bucs versus – Houston, Redington, Colony, and Wasilla. The Bucs got off to a hot start versus Houston where the Bucs didn’t lose a single match, winning all matches by pin or technical fall. Rounds 2 and 3 versus Redington and Colony the Bucs faced some adversity, falling to the Huskies 54-21, and the Knights 55-12. In Round 4 the Bucs bounced back against Wasilla, ending on a high note with a 53-24 win.

Saturday consisted of a one day 16-man bracket tournament. Leading the way for the Buccaneer boys were Sophomores: Kaden Vanbuskirk (1st place 130 pounds), Logan Beck (1st place 135 pounds), and Julian Crater (1st place 215 pounds), Cirque Carter (3rd place 145 pounds). For the girls, leading the way was Freshman Bryndi Beck (2nd place 100 pounds), Kaitlyn Morgan (2nd place 120 pounds), Jewely Weber (3rd place 126 pounds), and Sophia Neahr (3rd place 138 pounds).

Next week the Bucs head to Anchorage for the annual Mountain City Christian Academy Invitational. Thank you again for all the support and go Bucs!
