Submitted by VHS Cross Country Coach – What a day at the races it was! Starting off with snowflake kisses and our annual visit to Santa Claus. The temperatures stayed cool, forcing runners to run fast to stay warm. Mother Nature’s strategy paid off as Valdez’s Cross-Country Running team walked away with 15 personal records, Varsity Boy’s Team earned 1st place, and all the girls qualified for state!

Our top 4 boys varsity runners all broke 18 minutes, a season long goal. They zoomed across the finish securing 5 of the top 10 places with Senior James Humphrey leading the pack in 3rd place. Junior Varsity Boys all finished in the top 25 with Senior Gabe Caruthers leading the team with an 8th place finish among DI and DII boys. Varsity girls remained strong with Freshman Bryndi Beck leading them with a 4th place finish.

Take a look at the incredible growth this team has made from their first race to yesterday’s, most on the same course. Jaymyn James and Zooey Baksis both improved their times by over 3 minutes! Congratulate your runners as we prepare for state in Palmer next week!
