Submitted by VHS Swim Coach – This weekend, VHS hosted the Valdez invite for their homecoming meet. On day one of back-to-back meets, Captain Grant Osburn got second place by swimming the 50 Free in 24.38 seconds. Josh Simms and Garrett Sutton continue to get PRs in the 50 Free event. Josh also placed first in his heat in both the 50 Free and 100 Free. Mariah Hoffman placed first in her heat and the event, all while obtaining a PR in the 100 Fly. Makena Wisner worked hard on Friday and got third in her heat of the 500 Free. The boys placed 3rd in the 200 Free Relay and 4th in the 400 Free Relay.
Day two was a bit less fruitful with the swimmers conserving the little energy they had left for their Homecoming Dance. Due to a swimmer being absent, the boys were able to invite the one Cordova male swimmer to join them for the 200 Free Relay. They would have placed fourth, had it not been counted as an exhibition relay.
All in all, the swimmers did great and they came to the homecoming dance looking their absolute best! I am proud of them both in the pool and on the dance floor. They are looking forward to a weekend of not traveling and being able to catch up on much needed rest and recovery before traveling to Bartlett Invite on October 4th.
