Valdez Volleyball Invite 2025

Submitted by the VHS Varsity Volleyball Coach

This weekend was the annual Valdez Invite. The girls started off the day playing North Pole and winning 1-0. This set the tone for the day as the girls continued to get big wins and showcasing what the team could do. Everyone was able to get on the floor and we were able to work on running plays that the girls had learned this week. They ended the day 7-1, losing only to Barrow in a tough match. Going into Bracket play there was a 3-way tie between Barrow, Eagle River, and us. It came down to points then a coin flip between Eagle River and Valdez. They won the flip so we went into day 2 seeded second.

Bracket play started with us facing off against Barrow yet again. We started off strong but came up short due to unforced errors. The girls redeemed themselves after against Houston with a quick win. We then had back to back games starting with Eagle River followed by Mt. Edgecumbe. We struggled through the beginning of the match against Eagle River and not finding our groove. The girls were able to eventually come together and fight back but couldn’t quite overcome the hole we dug ourselves into. It was a tough loss and knocked us out of the running for the championship. I am proud of the girls for how they played Edgecumbe after that loss. They played as a team and finished strong with a solid win to end the tournament in 3rd Place.
