Submitted by VHS Volleyball Coach – This weekend Buccaneer Volleyball was on the road again for the second tournament of the season. We traveled to Houston for the Annual North/South Tournament that is hosted by a different Southcentral Conference. For the pool play round, the girls started the morning off playing Seward, followed by Palmer JV, Barrow, Grace Christian, and Redington. They struggled to get their groove right off the bat but quickly got focused and
finished pool play 5-0. They went into the Gold Bracket seeded second. Both Valdez and MCCA were undefeated so seeding came down to who gave up less points.

Day 2 was bracket play and the girls came ready to win. They started off playing Homer and winning 2-0 with unmatched cohesiveness. Their next game was the semifinals against Barrow. This was a tough match but the girls fought hard and won 2-1. In the championship game they faced off against the Barrow Whalers who fought through the loser bracket with a vengeance. The first set was a tough loss for Valdez and we struggled to get our footing throughout the set. The second and third set showed Valdez’s perseverance and grit as they worked for each point and came out on top winning the match 2-1.
