The Lady Bucs made the long bus ride up to Fairbanks again this weekend. This time facing off against the very talented Monroe Lady Rams. We were very eager to get a chance to play against the Rams as they lost by only one point to the 4A defending state champions just a few short weeks ago. It’s always great to play against a team of this caliber.

Friday night’s contest was a tough one for the travel weary Bucs as our bus ride turned into a 10 ½ hour adventure. It was not at all surprising that we came out moving a little slow and also overwhelmed by the tempo and overall skill of this Monroe team. Monroe quickly jumped out to a 18-6 lead over the Bucs in the 1st quarter and never looked back. Monroe won Friday night’s contest by a score of 52-17. Lola Compehos lead all Buccaneer scorers Friday night with 12 points.

Saturday night’s game would not end in favor of the Lady Bucs either, but our girls showed up rested, prepared, and gave the Rams a much better contest. Monroe ended the game on top by a score of 58-36. Destiny Day led all scorers on Saturday with 21 points, Lola Compehos had 8 points and Izzy Kizer contributed 4 points.

Really proud of how our girls came out strong in Saturday’s contest and played hard against one of the best teams in the state. For such a young team to recognize and make adjustments the way they did and to not give up and fight as hard as they did is a big deal.

The Lady Bucs will host the Delta Huskies this weekend in our final home games of the season. Please come out and support our teams and recognize our senior athletes!
