The Valdez City Council established a Child Care Crisis Task Force on February 21, 2023, adopting Resolution 23-07. This citizen’s advisory group is tasked with creating a strategic plan to address the child care crisis in our community and provide other recommendations to strengthen Valdez’s early childhood system. It was created in response to a dire lack of options for young children and their families in Valdez.
The grant will fund the creation of a strategic plan to address the ongoing child care crisis in Valdez and to ensure swift implementation of the plan once completed. The work of the task force will be to provide recommendations to the City Council for short, middle and long-term actions, including specific, actionable steps, in the following four areas:
• Analysis of existing buildings
• assessment of management structures
• determination of funding mechanisms
• stabilization of the early education workforce
