Courtesy of Coach Deaton – Husky wrestling continued this past weekend at the Colony Middle School dual meet invite. This is the first time (that I am aware of) that Valdez has had a large enough roster to compete in dual meet action. Dual meets are competitions between two teams. Each team enters one wrestler per weight class, and he or she wrestles an opponent in that weight class from the other team. Team scoring is the idea behind dual meets, and the winning wrestler is awarded three to six points depending on the nature of the win (decision 3 points, major decision 4 points, Tech fall 5 points, or fall 6 points).
Our Husky wrestling team went 3-2 in dual action this weekend with a 65-30 win over Redington Middle School, 54-42 win over Teeland Middle School, and a 57-27 win over Wasilla Middle School. The Huskies fell just short of winning versus Colony Middle School, falling 48-43 with the dual being decided in the final weight class. Last, the Huskies came up short versus Palmer Junior Middle School losing 62-33.
