NYO: 2022 Sr. Games Recap

Courtesy of Coach Thompson – After a 2 year hiatus due to Covid-19 VHS has made it back to the Alaska Airlines Center to celebrate and participate in the 2022 NYO Senior Games. This being my first year at the games, I am honored to take part in this truly unique experience. I look forward to many NYO games ahead as we continue to grow awareness of the games.

We had ten buccaneer athletes take to the floor to participate in the games. Each and every athlete came out and competed to their best ability and I am extremely proud of each and every one of them.

A Few Highlights from the Games:

● Jo Jo Ferguson pulled her way all the way to the girls finals of the Eskimo Stick Pull and one match from the podium.
● Levi Clubb recorded a 38 ½” kneel jump that is being reviewed for a VHS School record. Not only is this a potential record he set a new PR.
● Emory Disney Set a new PR for the Seal Hop coming within an arm's length of the half court line. *More than double Coach CT’s seal hop attempt*
● Micahel Cosgrave set a new PR for the Seal Hop making it past half court and to the 3-point line *Much, much further than coach CT’s attempt*
● Anthony Kelley, and his carries, Eziekiel Duncan and Peter Van Der Muelen, got the crowd going with a 1 ¾ lap wrist carry.
● I would like to congratulate Dawn Totemoff and Levi Clubb for completing their Senior Season of NYO at VHS. I hope the games have brought much joy to your life and you continue to share them with future generations.
● I look forward to helping our returning athletes begin their off-season training for the 2023 games!
● I would like to thank my fellow coaches Robert Huston and Betty McIntosh for helping introduce me to the games and share their years of experience. I could not ask for better mentors. Thank you!
