VOTE TO EXTEND MASK MANDATE THROUGH DECEMBER 22nd ON COUNCIL AGENDA FOR TUESDAY

masks-2

The Mask Mandate enacted by City Council is set to expire November 3rd and Valdez City Manager Mark Detter told City Council at the close of the November 28th Budget Session they should make sure they have every Council member available at Tuesday night’s meeting to vote on the issue. He reminded Council the mask mandate passed by a 4 to 3 vote last time. In order to enact the most recent mask mandate, Mayor Sharon Scheidt signed an Emergency Declaration September 29th and the City Council voted September 30th to extend the local government disaster declaration until rescinded by Council. The Declaration states, “The established benchmark for revising this declaration is set as the point in time when the Providence Alaska medical system no longer needs to operate under crisis standards of care or the second regular City Council meeting in December 2021, whichever occurs first”. The City Council agenda packet for Tuesday includes the proposed mandate. There are no supporting documents in the agenda packet regarding the Providence Alaska medical system, but there is a verbal COVID-19 update on the agenda for Tuesday night’s meeting.
