VHS Track and Field
State Meet at Dimond High School
Courtesy of VHS Coaches – The Buccaneers Track and Field team had 22 team members (a record number for the Bucs) qualify for the 2021 State Meet. They faced a very cold and rainy weekend for competition, but in the true spirit of this team, they rallied, powered through, supported each other, and busted out some impressive times, distances, and throws. These are some seriously tough kids!
The boy’s team scored a third-place win, a mere 5 points behind Grace Christian. The highlight of the weekend was a gold medal-winning run by the boy’s 4X200 relay team of Tate Chadwick, A.J. Mann, Josh Baczuk, and Piers Shirk. The boys had the honor of carrying the state flag in a victory run down the finishing stretch.
Jeffrey Prevost, Hurdles
Jeffrey Prevost broke his own school record yet again (for the 4th time) in the 110m Hurdles with a scorching run of 16.53 seconds.
Dennis Mott also broke his own school record in Discus by an impressive 10 feet with a powerful throw of 121’ 9”.

What a great year for the Bucs! Despite a canceled season in 2020 due to Covid 19, this year we had the biggest Track and Field team Valdez has ever seen, a Region Championship, a record number of State Qualifiers, and five new school records. We can’t wait for the 2022 season!
