VHS Weekend Wrap-Up – April 29, 2019

Courtesy of VHS Coaches – At this year’s 2019 NYO games, there were 55 teams and over 400 athletes from both Yukon and Alaska competed and the Valdez teams had several top ten finishes and many of of our athletes hit their personal best in their events. Valdez had two athletes bring home metals with Dakota Brown placed 5th in the two-foot high kick and Storm Rohrer placed 4th in the one-hand reach. Zoe Brown also set a new school record in the kneel jump at 34 ¾”.

Valdez NYO team had five seniors Ricky Colapietro, Evan Alexander, Dakota Brown, Isaac Clubb and Caitlin Mond that provided excellent leadership throughout the season. Betty McIntosh continues to be a great volunteer coach and chaperone. She also adds a level of respect and culture to our team.

Track and Field

Boys 4×200 3rd place track and field 2019

Courtesy of VHS Coaches – The VHS Track and Field team traveled to Soldotna to compete against 18 other teams in the SoHi Invitational. The team has been training hard and their diligence and dedication paid off with some spectacular performances and new personal records.

Junior Owen Chadwick, set a new school record and placed 1 st overall in the 100m with time of 11.30. He went on to place 3 rd in the 200m with a time of 23.21 and 2 nd in the 400m with a time of 52.30.

Kassi Howard placed 3 rd overall in the High Jump with a 4’10’’ jump.

The boys 4X200 relay team of Hayden Howard, Tate Chadwick, Josh Baczuk, and Owen Chadwick placed 3 rd with a run of 1:42.24.

The girls 4X100 relay team of Sophia Palomar, Cherubim Palomar, Kylie Fletcher-Gilbert, and Kassi Howard finished in 8 th place with a time of 57.93.

The team will be traveling to Houston this weekend.
