The Valdez High School Track and Field team sent 17 athletes to compete at the state meet in Anchorage this past weekend.

The Bucs had an exciting weekend in Fairbanks at the Region VI Track and Field Championships. The boys’ team took first place for the 5th year in a row.

This past weekend, 28 Buccaneer track and field athletes traveled to The Dome
in Anchorage to join over 1000 other athletes from 36 teams, both 3A and 4A, across
the state to compete in the Russ Edwards Big C Relays.

The Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches recognized three VHS students were recognized for 3A All-State.
4th Place Finish at State for VHS Boys Basketball
The Valdez (#5 Seed) defeated Kenai Central (#6 Seed) 71-49 on Friday for fourth place in the Class 3A state basketball tournament at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage.

schools from around the state in 10 individual competitive areas, culminating in a live Super Quiz event where they squared up against other teams on stage in front of an audience.

The Lady Bucs enjoyed another weekend of home games this last week. The Hutchison Hawks joined us for a couple of conference games on Thursday and Friday night.
Bering Land Bridge wasn’t such a dry place
Poking holes in the sea floor that used to be part of the Bering Land Bridge, researchers have found that large swaths of it were floodplains pocked with bogs and ponds that may have restricted passage of animals like the woolly rhino and short-faced bear.
