(11-2-15) – This past weekend the Valdez High School was host to the 2015 Region III Swimming and Diving Championships. This competition marks the first of four regional tournaments Valdez is looking to host for the school year. Over 250 kids attended from around the state of Alaska to compete in the three day tournament. This year Valdez had a team of 13 student athletes anxiously waiting to compete to see where they rank in their respected region. On Friday the Valdez swimmers spent the whole day competing in their preliminary races for placement in final races on Saturday. The swimmers finished off their final races on Saturday with strong personal performances, but they were not quite good enough to make it to the state tournament. Overall for the tournament the Valdez girls swim team had a score of 17.50, which gave them a 7th place finish. The Valdez boys swim team at the end of competition received an overall score of 2 which gave the boys an eighth place finish for the tournament.
