This weekend the Lady Bucs took to the court against the Galena Hawks feeling energized and probably the most ready to play that we have been all season.  With an almost full roster (we have yet to have a full roster yet this season) and most everyone healthy we were excited to get games underway and excited to play on our home court. The Bucs came out strong in the 1st quarter…..our tenacious defense and team play got our team rolling over the Hawks as we took a 6 point lead early.  However, that high energy would be short lived as senior Destiny Day took a season ending hit on a full court layup early in the 2nd quarter. That hit sent our team spinning…..our leader, our point getter, our play creator was done…  The Lady Bucs did their best to hold it together and managed to keep the game within reach, but in the end came up short to the Hawks by a score of 45-38.  Leading scorers on Friday were Lola Compehos with 11 points, Rylee Wade tossed in 9, and Destiny Day had 8 points.

I could not be more proud of how we showed up on Saturday.  These girls were laser focused and ready to play.  Their motivation, as cheesy as it might sound, was “Let’s Do it For Des” and that’s just what they did.  Led by the determination of our veteran players Kelli Malcuit, Rylee Wade, Lola Compehos, and Hali Fitka, the Lady Bucs stunned the Hawks and jumped out to an early 17 to 8 lead in the 1st quarter.  We carried the lead late into the 4th quarter.  That would be where again, the Bucs luck ran out.  With just 6.9 seconds left on the clock and a 3 point Bucs lead the Galena Hawks threw up a Hail Mary 3 point shot at the buzzer…..and it went in.  What momentum we had left going into overtime was quickly diminished as we lost our senior leadership to foul trouble and our youth and inexperience, though try as they might, just didn’t have what it took to see us through.  The Bucs ended up losing to Galena by a score of 62-53 in overtime.  Leading scorers on Saturday were Parker King with 13 points, Hali Fitka had 11, and Kelli Malcuit tossed in 9.
