The VHS swimmers traveled to Anchorage this weekend to participate in the Bartlett Invite. The one day meet took place in the only 50 meter pool in the state. By dividing the pool in half, both girls and boys could compete at the same time. This proved challenging for our team as they are used to cheering each other on.
Mariah Hoffman got first in her heat of the 100 fly by swimming it in 1:06. Joslyn Unger got first in her heat by swimming the 100 breaststroke in 1:28. Makena Wisner swam her 200 free in 2:31.
Makena Wisner, Gray Odencrans, and Garrett Sutton all swam the 500 free in under 7 minutes. Garrett got a personal record by taking 6 seconds off his time.
Josh Sims swam his 100 free in 1:05 and swam his 50 free in 28. Grant Osburn swam his 50 free in 24.74 and his 100 backstroke in 1:04.
Garrett, Grant, Josh, and Gray got first in their 200 free relay heat with a time of 2:12. Then they got 2nd in their 400 free relay heat with a time of 4:20.
Despite limited practice last week due to illness, cold pool temperatures, and other challenges, the Valdez swimmers did their best to remain positive in such a challenging setting.
