On Friday night the Lady Buccaneer JV team came out strong against the Hutchison Hawks. Starting out for the Bucs were Raegan Lawrence, Peyton Branshaw, Cersei Strickland, Olivia Kilian, Ava Mitchell, and Olivia Marchant. Coming in off the bench were Amelia Alex, Averey Franklin, and Savannah Hammerly with Laela Scott playing as our team Libero. In the first set the Hawks had a difficult time returning the Buccaneer serves. After a long stretch of serves from Lawrence, Averey Franklin went on a serving run with a twelve serve streak against the Hawks. Olivia Kilian also made a memorable dive-save when the Hawks attempted to tip over our block. The Bucs claimed the first set 25-7.

In our second set of the night, the Hawks dug in on defense. The Bucs responded with strong defensive transitions by Scott, Mitchell, and Branshaw and were able to set up attacks from our front line offense. Lawrence mixed up our attack from across the front row with Branshaw and Franklin swinging from the outside and Strickland down the middle. In an out-of-system scramble Strickland was able to set up Lawrence on the right side for an additional kill. The Bucs took the second set 25-13.

The third and final set of the night was our most aggressive set. Branshaw came alive hitting outside with six kills against the Hawks. Tremendous control overall by the team. They did an excellent job of continuing to set up attacks throughout the evening rather than giving back scrambled free balls. The Lady Bucs won their Friday match against the Hawks with a final score of 25-14 in the third set.

On Saturday the Bucs JV team was up bright and early to face off against the Hawks once more. Our Libero, Laela Scott, executed great communication and control in our back line with a series of strong defensive plays that allowed our team to control the tempo of the game. The Bucs took the first set 25-14. Both Strickland and Branshaw fired up in the second set, hammering the Hawks with attacks, and claiming four kills each from their respective positions. We won our second set of the morning 25 – 12. The third and final set of the morning was our closest battle with the Hawks from the weekend. The Bucs didn’t let the early on point for point exchange rattle their calm. Instead they continued to read and respond defensively to the Hawks and were able to pull their way into the lead and a culminating victory. The Bucs won the final set 25-16.

Terrific work this weekend! Go BUCS!
