The Buccaneer football team hosted the Student Wrestling Development Program from Fairbanks this weekend in gridiron action.
The Buccaneers prepped hard to play this week and that effort was evident on the field. SWDP had difficulty moving the ball on the ground where previously they had enjoyed great success against other teams this year. However, the Buccaneer inexperience in the secondary was quickly taken advantage of resulting in scoring by SWDP several times in the first quarter.
The Bucs also were able to efficiently move the ball offensively when error-free. However, snap miscues and turnovers halted each drive. In addition, several special teams errors when receiving a kick resulted in quick turnovers, contributing to the lopsided scoring.
In the second half, the Bucs were successful in reaching the end zone on a long run by Kyle Peterson. All in all, the Bucs really did play well and employ the skills practiced this past week. When greatly out-sized and outnumbered, fatigue sets in and it can be difficult to execute. Nevertheless, the Bucs represented their home town with pride. Dylan Passage had an excellent game on both sides of the ball and has become a workhorse for the Bucs on both sides of the ball.
This week the Bucs welcome Seward to town for their homecoming game to be played on Saturday at 12:00. We hope to see you all there.
