Valdez City Council Appoints Lester Greene to fill vacant Council Seat

VALDEZ, ALASKA (August 6, 2025) — During its meeting on August 5, the Valdez City Council appointed Lester Greene to fill the vacant Council seat left by the resignation of Don Lumba. Greene’s appointment is effective immediately and will last until May 19, 2026.

Greene has been a resident of Valdez since 1991 and brings a wealth of experience in community service and project management. He has previously served on the Valdez Library Board and the Planning & Zoning Commission. Additionally, he is actively involved with the Valdez Elks Lodge and Eagles Aerie. For over 20 years, Greene has volunteered with Junior Achievement at Hermon Hutchens Elementary School.

After 33 years of working on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) with Alyeska and Price/Ahtna, Greene recently retired. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management from California State University, Chico.

Seven qualified residents expressed their interest in the vacant seat, and the City Council extends its
gratitude to all applicants for their dedication to the community.
