JV Lady Bucs in Galena

Basketball

Courtesy of VHS Coaches – The JV lady buccaneers got to a cold experience to Galena this past weekend for a set of games.

With a small roster, and limited quarters for some, our team of 7 had their first loss of the season on Friday night. The JV Buccaneers had a slow start but picked it up in the 2nd quarter leading 20 to 15 at the half, but the Galena Hawks #11 came out strong in the 3rd, scoring 12 of the teams 16 points giving them a 1-point lead at the end of the 3rd. The lady Bucs we’re never able to recover the lead losing 37 to 41.

Saturdays game was one for the books! The JV buccaneers came out and worked well together as a team. At half time we were leading by 7 points but in the third quarter the lady hawks scored 11 points to our 3. Ultimately, we secured the win when it came down to 30 seconds left on the clock and we were tied 35 to 35. The Galena Hawks inbound the ball and take the lead with 19 seconds on the clock. After a time out, the lady buccaneers score, making it a tied 37 to 37. Rylee Wade gets sent to the free throw line and puts us at a one-point lead with 14 seconds on the clock. The team worked together in a full court 5-man defense and got a steal, and a pass to Keli Malcuit who makes a layup securing the win 40 to 37. Carlie Vanbuskirk led the team with 18 points.

Ultimately, it was a great game and the girls played well. Close situational games
always emphasize the important of court awareness, working together, and playing smart, and the JV lady Bucs did just that. They really came together and are showing improvements from the start of the season.
