The Valdez Fish Derbies committee voted to spend proceeds from 2021 ticket sales on a new Valdez Fish Derbies (VFD) Weigh-In Shack and PFD’s for public use. Debbie Yamakami of VFD said she would like to thank Sarah, AJ and the City of Valdez streets crew for their support with the weigh-in shack and implementing the PFD program. VFD has a volunteer board of seven people and is completely self-supported by sponsorship and ticket sales. Dana Morales is the part-time year-round employee who handles everything from bookkeeping to sponsorship, Ricky Colapietro will be working the weigh-in station this summer and VFD is still looking to fill a few part-time paid and volunteer weigh-in positions at the harbor weigh-in shack.
