Wrestling

VHS Wrestling @ Houston Altercation

Courtesy of VHS Coaches – Buccaneer wrestling kicked off this past weekend at the annual Houston Altercation invite. Leading the way for the Buccaneers were seniors Wyatt Williams, Williams Benes, and Rylee Christensen, and freshman Carlie VanBuskirk; placing 4th at 125lbs, 6th at 215lbs, 3rd at 189G, and 4th at 135G. This was a great first tournament back for both our experienced upperclassmen and our newer wrestlers to gauge where we were at competitively. Overall, I am very proud of our team’s effort and I am very excited to get back in the room and sharpen our skills.

The Palmer Invitational

Courtesy of VHS Coaches – The Buccaneer Swim Team had a wonderful weekend swimming in their first Preliminary and Finals Meet of the season. Our swimmers showed up ready to swim and nearly the entire swim team made finals in either individual races or relays. The Womens’ 200 Medley Relay made finals by placing 6th on day 1. On day 2 the relay swam a whole 2 seconds faster and moved up one place in ranking. The Women’s 400 Freestyle Relay also made finals in the 6th position and in a very exciting Finals Swim the Lady Bucs were able to drop 8 seconds from the day before, overtaking 3 entire teams, and placing 3rd overall with Ava O’Brien at the lead setting a new best time of 1:13.45 on her leg of the relay. Well Done!

On the individual finalist side Levi Club made B Finals in his 200 Free gaining a second day swim and setting a new best time of 2:28.11. Levi also dropped 1 second in his 100 Breaststroke setting a new best time of 1:30.99. With another great meet Liam Roosma made A Finals in his 200 Individual Medley with a new best time of 2:20.77, as well as in his 100 Breaststroke with another new best time of 1:14.47. Fisher Mishmash, who also made A Finals in both events, keeps crushing his 50 Freestyle. Taking 1st Place with a new best time of 23.22, Fisher is less than half a second from the school 50 Free record. Weston Clupper keeps up his tremendous improvements by dropping over 12 seconds in his 100 Backstroke and 2 seconds in his 50 Freestyle.

From the women’s team Billi Lovell keeps up her competitive pace making A Finals in both her 50
Freestyle and 100 Butterfly where she set a new best time of 1:04.22. Kinsey Mishmash also made finals in both events. Making B Finals in her 200 Individual Medley and A Finals in her 100 Breaststroke with a new best time of 1:16.41. Rhain Osburn showed intensity in her 200 Individual Medley, as did, Ginger Keller in her 50 Freestyle. Both swimmers made B finals in their respective events and both showed strength and enthusiasm in the relays they swam as well. It is with out a doubt that Ginger & Rhain have earned the honor of this weeks Swimmers of the Meet! Also, the team has informed me that I needed to report that Beige our Toaster (Mascot) had wonderful sleepover with the other mascots on the pool deck Friday night!

In these uncertain times please wish our Swimming Buccaneers all the luck in the world as we prepare for our Regional Championship Swim Meet in Fairbanks in 2 weeks. Our swimmers have worked very hard and improved on all their skills this season. I am very proud of their successes and I look forward to our upcoming Region Meet!
