VALDEZ A GIRLS FINISH STRONG IN GLENNALLEN
The girls Gilson Middle School basketball team took the court on Friday night against Glennallen and found a formidable opponent. The Panthers and Huskies traded buckets pretty evenly throughout the contest and found themselves tied at the end of regulation. In overtime the Huskies played hard but came up short losing by just three points 27-24. Rylee Wade and Destiny Day led the team in scoring. On Saturday night, the Huskies hit the court with more intensity and better teamwork. After a poor shooting first half, the Huskies found their groove in the second half and beat Glennallen by a score of 25 to 16. Rylee Wade and Lola Compehos hit some clutch shots down the stretch and Carlie VanBuskirk and Destiny Day pulled down some important rebounds.

VALDEZ B GIRLS DROP TWO GAMES TO GLENNALLEN
The GMS girls B team played the first game of the season in Glennallen Friday afternoon. Despite a tremendous amount of hustle from the Huskies they ended up on the losing end of both games this weekend. Lilia Rissman grabbed 6 rebounds in Fridays contest and had three steals on Saturday. The Huskies look forward to playing Tok this Friday and Saturday. Special thanks to Bobby Gibbs and Carey Wade for helping with the teams this weekend.

BOYS A TEAM
Courtesy of Coach Cronk – The A team boys played very well this past weekend in Glennallen.  I was very happy with their effort and their execution at this early point of the season.  Both games had the scoring pretty evenly distributed, everyone contributed whether it was on the offensive or defensive side.
They received compliments about their attitudes during the games, and were also complemented by the bus driver about their behavior.
BOYS B TEAM
Courtesy of Coach Auble – We had a great weekend playing in Glennallen! It was the first games we played this season and we finally got to put everything we practiced into play with some successes. We had a hard time running our offensive plays that first game but we were able to make up for it with inside passes to James Morgan and fast break layups. Our defense held them down to only a few points each quarter and we were able to pull away with a win. The second day was also an exciting and close game, I was able to see our offense run more smoothly with passes around the arc and trying to hit cutters for layups. Their point guard was able to keep them in the game with a number of layups, but we were able to pull away with a win. James Morgan had a great game with 11 rebounds and 17 points, with Brodie Anderson also contributing 8 rebounds and 2 points. We are looking forward to the practices this week and games against Tok on Friday.
