COULD A 200-POUND HALIBUT WIN THE VALDEZ HALIBUT DERBY?

Last season, Jeremy Smith of North Pole Alaska took home the Valdez Halibut Derby 1st place prize of $10,000 with a halibut weighing in at only 170-pounds. Right now, Troy Dolge of Copper Center is leading the derby with a 203-pound halibut he caught June 4th, but whether it stays in the lead is anyone’s guess.

ANGLERS BRINGING IN BOATLOADS OF FISH IN VALDEZ

Carl Tilton of Fairbanks, Alaska went out on a two-day halibut charter and was glad he had a derby ticket when he landed a 95.6-pound halibut last Tuesday. He was glad he had tickets for both days he fished in the Sound on his overnight charter.

COPPER CENTER ANGLER WINS HALIBUT HULLABALOO

The overall leaders in the Valdez Halibut Derby have all tipped the scales at more than 100 pounds and the Halibut Hullabaloo winner is currently in 1st place overall.

Valdez Halibut Derby Anglers Compete for $10,000

The Valdez Halibut Derby kicked off Saturday, May 27th with anglers excited to get their lines in the water. Johnathan Johnson of Anchorage holds 1st place weekly and overall, with the very first fish weighed for the 2023 season, a 67.8-pound halibut caught May 27th aboard the Big Fish.
