Alabama Shakes have announced I Must Be Dreaming, the Grammy-winning band’s third studio album and its first full-length release in 11 years. The album will be released Aug. 28 through Island Records, marking the group’s long-awaited follow-up to 2015’s Sound & Color. The announcement also confirms that the new single, “I Feel Hope Coming,” will be released Friday, joining the previously issued tracks “Another Life” and “American Dream.”

Frontwoman Brittany Howard said the album title reflects two contrasting perspectives on the current moment, explaining, “There’s a double meaning to it. It could be saying, ‘I must be dreaming, because the world is so fucking crazy right now.’ But it could also mean, ‘I must be dreaming, because the world is so incredibly beautiful.’ Both those things can be true at once.” Howard has also described “I Feel Hope Coming” as a song inspired by optimism, saying younger generations give her confidence that positive change remains possible.  See the album trailer: HERE.

The album was recorded in Nashville and produced by Alabama Shakes alongside Shawn Everett, who previously worked on Sound & Color. According to the band, the new collection expands its signature blend of rock, soul and psychedelia while exploring themes including love, mortality, human connection and the contradictions of modern life. The 11-track record features songs including “Tea Time,” “Garden,” “Time,” “Friends,” “Easy,” “Waist Deep” and “Tied To You.”

The trio of Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg and bassist Zac Cockrell began work on the album after reuniting in late 2024, following a surprise live performance that reignited the band’s creative partnership. Since then, Alabama Shakes have returned to touring, with dates across Europe and North America continuing through September. For tour information head HERE.
