VHS Track & Field at State, May 2023
Girls 4X100

Courtesy of VHS Coaches – The Bucs had a pretty impressive showing at the State Track and Field Championship Meet at Palmer High School. The boy’s team took 3rd place overall with 95.5 team points, and our small but mighty girl’s team ended the competition with 48 team points.  The Bucs also saw four new school records set this past weekend. Our athletes aren’t content to let things lie and continue to raise the bar (Such a great Track and Field reference!) for themselves and each other. Dillon Fowler broke his own VHS record in the 110m Hurdles with a scorching time of 16.10.  With a combo of speed and perfectly placed hand-offs, the girl’s 4X100 relay team of Anika Palomar, Kelsey Prax, Destiny Day, and Izzy Kizer broke their own VHS record, set just last weekend, with a time of 53.44. The relay team of Jason Smilie, Rafe Caruthers, Gavin Morris, and Barrett McCumby also broke their own VHS record, set just last weekend, with a blistering time of 8:47.18, shaving off an impressive 10 seconds, and Izzy Kizer broke her own VHS record in the Long Jump, set earlier this season, with a stunning jump of 16’ 6.75”. The crowd gasped when she busted that one out and beat her nearest competitor by over a foot. Izzy was also voted Most Outstanding Female 3A Athlete at the State Championships by coaches and administrators at the meet–a prestigious award for an exceptional athlete! The boy’s team was awarded the Academic award for having the highest combined team GPA.
