We decided to do Regionals the hard way this year!
On Thursday, the second place, Valdez Girls, played the third place, Galena Hawks.
We did not play well, and with 20 turnovers and a poor shooting percentage, lost 39-47.
This dropped us into the losers bracket with a long road ahead!
On Friday, we played Eielson and everyone on the team got some playing time and played hard to get the win.
On Saturday, we started the day at 9:00 am playing Delta. We struggled on defense in the first half, but got on track in the second half and won 51-29. We now advanced to the 12:30 pm game with a rematch against Galena. The winner of that game would take second place in the Tournament and get a birth in the State Tournament. We knew it was going to be a very physical and intense game. Galena has good outside shooters and we would have to contain them and keep our turnovers to a minimum. Galena put a lot of pressure on our Freshmen guards, Destiny Day and Lola Compehos, but they rose to the occasion. The inside game of Masen Holmes, Carlie VanBuskirk, and Lily Brown was a lot for the shorter Galena forwards to handle, and they battled hard for the rebounds. Carsyn Hinkle keep up the defensive intensity and the aggressiveness the team needed. The final score was 37-28. It was a hard fought, team win, that tested the conditioning and desire of the girls.
Masen Holmes, Destiny Day, and Carsyn Hinkle were named to the All-Conference Team. Rylee Wade was named to the All-Conference Good Sport Team.
