Valdez Girls Basketball vs Monroe

Friday, Feb. 24: Valdez 19 – Monroe 53
On Friday, the Valdez girls, hosted the second ranked 3A team in the State, the Monroe
Rams. Monroe came out in a tough man to man defense and a full court press. The
pressure created 34 turnovers for the Buccaneers and gave the Rams 20 steals.
The pressure of Monroe’s defense held the girls to only 23 field goal attempts as they
worked to run their offense. The girls continued to work hard the whole game as they
improved on their ball handling and passing.
Carsyn Hinkle – 7 points, 2 rebounds
Masen Holmes – 5 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists
Destiny Day – 2 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal
Kelli Malcuit – 2 points
Mya Christoffersen – 2 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals
Carlie VanBuskirk – 1 point, 3 rebounds

Saturday, Feb. 25: Valdez 22 – Monroe 50
Saturday was the last home game for the 4 Seniors (Mya Christoffersen, Lily Brown,
Carsyn Hinkle, and Masen Holmes). It was an evening filled with flowers, balloons,
hugs, and tears. The girls were determined to make it a good game and they did.
Goals were set to lower the team’s turnovers from Friday night, and to keep Monroe to
single digit quarters. The girls were able to cut the turnovers from 34 to 24 and hold
Monroe to only 4 points in the second quarter and 7 points in the third quarter. Ball
handling and passing continue to improve!

Masen Holmes – 10 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals
Carlie VanBuskirk – 4 points, 6 rebounds
Carsyn Hinkle – 3 points, 1 rebound
Destiny Day – 3 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals
Lily Brown – 2 points, 3 rebounds

The Lady Bucs head to Delta this week to finish out the 2022-23 regular season with
two games against the Delta Huskies. Then it will be back to Delta during Spring Break
for the Aurora Conference Regional Tournament.
