By bus, by plane, and by bus again, the Valdez High School Basketball Teams arrived at Galena High School.
Valdez 61- Galena 33
Masen Holmes set the new school record in rebounds with 23 rebounds in one
game! The previous record was 20!
Masen Holmes led all scorers with 27 points and 23 rebounds. Once again Masen
proved to be difficult to guard and ended up going to the free throw line attempting 16 free throws and making 9.
Lily Brown added 10 points and 4 rebounds, Rylee Wade made 7 points, Carsyn
Hinkle had 6 points, Carlie VanBuskirk had 4 points and 4 rebounds, Mya
Christoffersen had 3 points and 3 rebounds, and Izzy Kizer had 2 points, and Destiny Day added 2 points, 3 assists, and 4 rebounds.
Saturday, January 21:
Valdez 58- Galena 35
The girls got off to a quick start in the first quarter with Carsyn Hinkle driving hard to the basket and scoring 6 points. From there the girls never looked back. The half time score was 31 – 12. The scoring was much more balanced in this game and everyone got some playing time.
Carsyn Hinkle had her best game of the season with 17 points and 6 assists. Masen Holmes had 17 points and 19 rebounds. Lily Brown had 13 points and 3 rebounds. Destiny Day 4points and 5 rebounds and 6 assists four steals and took one charge. Rylee Wade had 3 rebounds and added 4 points, and Carlie VanBuskirk added 3 points and 4 rebounds and 2 steals.. Mya Christofferesen had 2 rebounds and 3 assists and 2 steals.
It was one of the best team games for the girls. Our defense stepped up and held
them to just 12 points the first half and on offense the ball movement and assists
were the best of all season with 17 assists as a team. Our shooting percentage was
also a season high with 46% from the field.
